Small Group Personal Training vs Large Group Classes

Large Group Classes
A larger number of people (usually 15+) follow the same workout at the same time. Think bootcamps, circuit classes, or studio-based group workouts.
Sessions are typically structured so that everyone completes the same movements, at the same pace or in timed intervals, with minimal individual variation.
Small Group Personal Training
Small group personal training is what we specialise in at Belift.
It combines the energy and motivation of training in a group with the individual attention of personal training.
While you’re training alongside others, you’ll still benefit from:
1) A tailored approach: you won’t all be doing the exact same workout. Exercises can be adapted based on your goals, experience, ability, or any limitations.
2) High levels of coaching: with small group sizes (typically up to 4 people), coaches are able to provide hands-on guidance, technique feedback, and ongoing support throughout the session.
When delivered well, it should feel closely aligned to a 1-2-1 personal training experience, just with the added energy and accountability of a group environment.

What are the pros and cons?
Small Group Personal Training
Pros
High level of coaching and support, ideal for beginners or anyone lacking confidence
Personalised programming within a group setting
More cost-effective than 1-2-1 personal training
Better for progressing safely and consistently toward specific goals
Encourages confidence with technique and strength training
Cons
It’s still a group environment (which may not suit everyone)
More expensive than large group classes
Large Group Training
Pros
More affordable than personal training
Social, energetic, and often enjoyable for those who like a high-paced environment
Easy to drop into without much planning
Cons
Limited individual coaching and feedback
Exercises are not tailored to individual needs
Higher likelihood of technique being overlooked
Progression can plateau over time due to lack of personalisation
May not be suitable for those with injuries or specific goals requiring attention
What should you choose?
It depends on your goals, experience, and what kind of support you need.
Consider the following:
Do you have any injuries or limitations?
If yes, small group personal training allows for adjustments and safer progression.
Do you lack confidence in the gym?
If you feel unsure where to start or how to train effectively, more coaching and guidance will be beneficial.
Are you working towards a specific goal?
Whether it’s building strength, improving technique, or learning how to lift properly, a more personalised approach will help you get there faster.
What is your budget?
Small group personal training offers a balance between affordability and high-quality coaching. Large group classes are a lower-cost option, but with less individual support.
If you think Small Group Personal Training is a better fit for you, why you should give Belift a go?
